Yellow Headed Amazon Parrots have originated from the coastal regions of Mexico, although it seems they may have originated from the Amazon. There are many traits about this specific species of parrot that make it so wonderful including the bright greed and yellow head and red under the wings. These birds also have markings under their wings that distinguish them from the rest. They live in warm, tropical areas such as Central America so that they can thrive in the rainforests and swamplands. It is sad that such a beautiful bird has become endangered because of poachers and deforestation it their region.

These parrots are bred in captivity and can be found very expensive to buy. They have a very unique way of learning much of the human language and are compared to the African Grey parrot, which is considered one the best speakers of all parrots. However, just because the species is known for being excellent at speaking, it really depends on the bird that you buy. Some birds will talk nonstop because of their amazing intelligence, while some will never speak. Usually, however, they are very playful and cause a lot of laughter in the family. They love to have plenty of attention and at times can be extremely noisy. If you do not pay attention to them, they will often tell you with loud sounds or they will talk to you about it if the owner puts in enough teaching time. Although it may take some work, in the end you will have a very sophisticated, new member of the family.

You should think about putting your bird in a huge aviary so that they can fly around and live like they would in the wild.

Aviaries are great to have, but if you cannot afford that for some reason, a large cage will suffice as long as you exercise the bird daily. These birds have a very easy time learning how to be tamed. Plenty of toys should be given to the parrot for chewing and playing, because they are known to be quite destructive.

These parrots can grow to the size of fifteen inches long. The males are normally larger than the females. This species has a very distinct beak that is generally hook-shaped. It has many uses such as climbing, grabbing, and searching for food. Their feet are like hands, and they use them to climb. Amazons have four toes, two that point forward and two that point back. The way the toes are separated makes it very easy for them to hold onto things. They even hold their food with their toes when in the process of eating.

These birds normally dine on fruits, blossoms, nuts, berries, and leaf buds. They have been known to attack crops for the food in them. Nutrition is so important when trying to keep these birds healthy for the longest possible time. If treated properly, they will live much longer.

As with any other pet, there needs to be a great deal of commitment when purchasing a parrot. They need a lot of love and affection, and they need a stable, healthy environment to live in. They should be treated as a new baby would be, so that they can live from up to sixty to eighty years.
